• Anti-Climax Boss: Iggy the 'squid freak' is built up quite well throughout Chapter 4. He's the main reason no one can escape the island, and is described as having a constant presence as his tentacles probe the island for survivors at night. The actual confrontation is laughably brief.
• Awesome Music: The comedic dance remix song that plays over the end credits (the credits for when you beat the game, not the credits that you can access from the main menu).
• Fridge Logic - The glass eye puzzle in chapter 7. Glass eyes don't function as actual eyes, but this is conveniently explained away by the All Just a Dream twist at the end
• Narm: The voice acting can be a bit stilted. The flashback where Max's sister dies of her illness should be heartbreaking, but Max doesn't even seem worried or sad at all until it's already happened.
• Nightmare Retardant: Despite his excellent build-up, Iggy is one of the less threatening horrors of the game. Essentially an man with octopus legs, his creepiness is ruined by both his abrupt encounter and the big googly eye on his stomach.
• Shocking Moments:
  • Putting the artifact in the statue's pillar in the first level. The statue then comes to life and starts bleeding (from the EYES!) and transports you to another world...yeah, bet you weren't quite expecting that, now were you.
  • The reveal of Mother and what exactly is happening to the kids in Chapter 2
  • Max transforming into Sarah at the end of chapter 3.
• Squick:
  • "Mother", both when you meet her and her corpse once you kill her
  • The mangled, bloated corpses floating just offshore in Chapter 4.
  • The puzzle where you have to cremate a dead body is probably the most extreme example.
• The Woobie - Arthur Patrick, Maria Santiago, and Lenny.
