* SeasonalRot: The series was supposed to end after the first season ... and according to many fans, it really shows. While there is still parts of the second season many found enjoyable, the weird gimmicks they implemented; bringing in outside Youtube voice actors, the occasionally horrible sound quality (especially of said outside talents), the live-action segments replacing the original ''Sailor Moon Says'', and the odd international quirk shoehorned into every episode really lowered the quality. To top it off, the fact the season didn't even end but was stopped right before the finale was the final nail in the coffin, with many fans saying anyone wanting to get into the series at this point should just stop after the first season (and maybe the movie).

* DesignatedHero: The entire cast, really, a collection of [[{{Jerkass}} jerks]], [[TheDitz idiots]], a [[HeroicComedicSociopath psychopath]], a drunk, are basically a generally incompetent and unsympathetic bunch.
** The unofficial ''Sailor Moon R'' sequel reveals they're aware of it though.

* WhatAnIdiot: In Episode 45, Sailor Moon, at a crucial moment during a battle with the MonsterOfTheWeek, decides to take advice from ''[[DumbBlonde Mina]]''. It goes about as well as you'd expect.

* TastesLikeDiabetes: In-universe, after Darien regains his memories and reconciles with Sailor Moon, Beryl says, "That's so sweet, I'm getting diabetes!"[[note]]This is a spoof of her [=DiC=] line, "That's so sweet, I'm getting cavities!"[[/note]]

** At least things improve for them in the unnofficial ''Sailor Moon R'' sequel, with Amy dicovering her talent for gaslighting and Lita being treated by her fellow scouts as a girl.

* FunnyAneurysmMoment: Zoicite's comment that "The Negaverse sees everything, ''just like the government!''" has become more difficult to laugh at since the various scandals surrounding the NSA.

** The unnofficial ''Sailor Moon R'' sequel was aware of this, covering the whole Rini arc while the Doom Tree arc is dropped early and Ail and Ann are PutOnABus.

* ValuesDissonance: The copious amounts of gay, trans, bulimia, and rape jokes did not help this series age well.

** Rubeus's sexist attitude against the Spectre Sisters in the unofficial ''Sailor Moon R'' sequel is less funny because of how sexist Mexico is, resulting in rampant machismo and feminicides.[[note]] Said sequel was made in Mexico.[[/note]]

* HarsherInHindsight: In the beginning of Episode 18, Melvin mentions a 'Princess Diamond' and clarifies she's not related to Prince Diamond who will be introduced next season. Serena responds "We're never getting that far!" Cut to present day, where the SMA crew stopped making episodes in 2012 shortly before the end of the Doom Tree arc.

** In the unofficial ''Sailor Moon R'' sequel, Mina's nickname is "Barbie". This is a BrickJoke on Otamon's short-lived ''WebAnimation/BarbieLifeInTheDreamhouse'' parody series when Barbie has the same obnoxious voice he makes for Mina.

* TooGoodToLast: The original plan was to finish the series at the Doom Tree arc which would have already made it this trope, but the busy lives of the creators led to the series stopping production at the antipenultimate episode. On a cliffhanger no less.
** The ''original'' original plan was to just stop after the first series and movie. But then they decided to tackle Season 2. Yeah, that didn't work out too well.

** Similarly, in Episode 14 of the unofficial ''Sailor Moon R'' sequel, Luna tells Serena to stop being so useless because "that's what Super S is for". Otamon said in a tweet that he'll stop doing Sailor Moon parodies and that the R season will be the last one.
