• Complete Monster: Aden Syed, a Somali warlord active during the 1991 civil war, better known by his nom de guerre, "The Saw Man", for his tendency to hack limbs off people who defied him. Hondo, who served in Somali when he was in the Marines, recalls some of the atrocities he heard Syed committed; specifically that he kidnapped children to be soldiers in his private army, giving them a choice between killing their mothers or being executed after watching their mothers be raped and murdered. Evading capture at the end of the civil war, Syed fled to America where he started a new life, getting married to a woman and fathering a son who have no idea of his past life. When he is identified, arrested and due to be extradited to the International Criminal Court, he remains unrepentant, and when a group of his former child soldiers kidnap his wife and son, demanding Syed read a live confession of his crimes or his family will be executed, Syed flatly refuses, outright saying their lives mean nothing compared to staying true to his principles.
