These are what we call the 'YMMV items.' Things that some people find in this work. We call them 'your mileage might vary' because not everyone sees these things in the same way. This starts discussions in the trope lists, a thing we don't want. Please use the discussion page if you'd like to discuss any of these items.
YMMV: Run, Fat Boy, Run!
Heartwarming Moments: Jake's "You won, daddy! You won!" It doesn't matter that Dennis really came in last, hours after the next-to-last person crossed the finish, because he finished, and in his son's eyes, that means he won.
Ho Yay: "Go on, you beautiful man! ...apologies, it's hard not to get caught up in all the excitement."
Moment Of Awesome: Dennis, at the halfway point of the Marathon that he's been running for the last eight miles on a badly sprained, and possibly broken ankle, hits the wall, hard. He stands there, motionless except for the swaying, obviously exhausted. And then he crashes through the wall and keeps going to the finish line. Because he promised he would, damn it!
But running the marathon is a deliberate parallel to his relationship with his could-have-been wife. He abandoned that at the last moment and ran away. If he abandoned the race at the point where he hits the wall or even at the last stumbling block, it would have been for nothing, just like the point of the film where he decides he isn't going to run. Running a marathon doesn't prove he's a good person - and that's implying he was a bad person, when perfectly good people still get cold feet and get scared - it implies Dennis can change for the better and prove people wrong, contrary to the other examples early in the film.
