YMMV / Road Runner's Death Valley Rally

Go To

  • Better as a Let's Play: Due to how difficult the game is to complete, many people conclude that it’s better to watch the game, then to play themselves, due to its faithfulness of the source material.
  • Catharsis Factor: The main reason to power through the Nintendo Hard levels is to see just how Wile. E. gets his comeuppance at the end of each stage. There are no repeats either, the Laser-Guided Karma is different every time.
  • It's Hard, So It Sucks!: The biggest criticism of the game is that it's just too darn difficult due to unreliable controls and the large, complex level designs that quickly start to look the same, which combined make the levels very difficult to navigate. And there's no password system and no save system, and continues are limited, so once you run out it's back to the start screen. The game has a cheat code to let you start with 99 lives, and even with that code, completing the game is considered a challenge.
  • Nintendo Hard: Once you've gotten acquainted with the game after the first world, it stops pulling punches. Levels become very large and difficult to navigate, enemies and traps get tricky to avoid, platforming gets a lot harder, and the game becomes increasingly stingy with power-ups and checkpoint flags.
  • The Problem with Licensed Games: While the game is widely praised for its faithful homaging of classic Road Runner cartoons, its steep difficulty and clunky controls when platforming turn most players against it once the charm of the premise wears off. For a game that tried to let players feel like they were playing a real Road Runner cartoon, the game is more fun to watch than to play.
  • Unexpected Character: Marvin the Martian is introduced at the end of Stage 4 without any foreshadowing, as the Road Runner walks out of frame and suddenly enters a teleporter to travel to Mars for the final stage.
