YMMV / Rise of the Third Power

Go To

  • Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: A pretty significant problem with the story is that basically everyone in the party is unsympathetic to some degree, and the Bitter Sweet Ending leans hard on the Bitter and not much on the Sweet. Almost no one gets any real resolution of their main storylines or what they want, and most questions remain unanswered; the main villain doesn't even get killed, instead getting trapped in a brutal, destructive civil war in his homeland. To make matters worse, the developers haven't confirmed if there will be a sequel to tie up all these loose ends.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: The sheer stupidity of Rowan not telling the party about Sparrow's true identity, which gets the entire Resistance killed, makes it very, very difficult to tolerate him as a character. Not helping matters is that Rowan has a rather weak emotional reaction to getting his allies killed, in contrast to characters in other media who make similar mistakes. Additionally, the story is rushed towards the end, giving Rowan less time to redeem himself in-universe and out. While the game makes it clear that this will be a stain on his character, it also still seems to expect some degree of forgiveness towards Rowan, as shown by how Rashim partially forgives him towards the end of the game.
