YMMV / Return of the Mummy

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: At the end, after Sari jokingly warns Gabe that Nila (who had been transformed into a scarab beetle prior to the end) could be after him, Gabe goes to sleep in the tent, only to utter "Ow!" as the last line. Did Nila really come back to exact her revenge on Gabe, or is Sari playing a prank on him (like she did earlier in the book)?
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: This won't be the last time Annick Obsonsawin plays a character who goes to Eygpt.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Princess Nila has shades of this when you realize she probably spent centuries planning to bring back her beloved brother. And when she finally succeeds, he returns the favor by ''trying to kill her'', and she gets trapped as a scarab forever thanks to Gabe. Nice going, hero. Although to be fair, she did try to kill Gabe and his family, nor is it ever stated if her brother actually wanted to come back. Plus, Gabe was trying to save her from the mummy.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: Many Total Drama fans have only shown an interest in this episode just to see Daniel De Santo (who plays Dave) and Annick Obonsawin (who plays Sierra) play Gabe and Sari.
  • Memetic Mutation: Dave and Sierra on Goosebumps.Explanation
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: Gabe in the last book was considered one of the most unlikable protagonists of the series due to his bratty attitude in the beginning and being as whiny as Evan Ross, if not more so, which even at one point caused most readers to root for Ahmed instead. This time, Gabe does develop into a more mellowed-out, level-headed character, which is considered one of the improvements of the novel compared to the first one.
  • Retroactive Recognition:
    • Before playing Jason and Dave, Daniel De Santo played Gabe.
    • Also, we have Annick Obonsawin appearing as Sari years before playing Sierra on Total Drama.
  • Surprisingly Improved Sequel: Return of the Mummy is liked more than The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb for having tighter pacing, making Gabe less annoying, and having a more enjoyable villain in the form of Nila.
