YMMV / Really Scent

  • Esoteric Happy Ending: Depending on your opinions of Pepe, the ending with him being the one who is chased by a love-crazed "skunk" with a horrible odor can be quite cathartic, even though Fabrette is still technically alone by its end.
  • Signature Scene: Fabrette, with a Visible Odor, hugging a bewildered, odorless Pepe who's just now taking note of his love's new scent. If not just iconic to this short, then to all of Pepe's shorts thanks to role reversal of the usual setup of his shorts.
  • Surprisingly Improved Sequel: Of all of Pepe's classic shorts, this is probably the one that has the least amount of vocal detractors (outside of Odor of the Day, which eschews the romantic aspects entirely). Mainly because it's made clear from the start that Fabrette genuinely wants to be with Pepe and has no problem with his usual advances, and bases the conflict around his stench making that difficult rather than Pepe not getting the hint that the object of his affection is terrified of him. Pepe himself is also a lot less "hands-on" than usual as a by-product, with his more clueless naivety being put to the forefront over his overzealous romantic side.
  • Values Dissonance: Surprisingly little given Pepe's usual shtick thanks to it being clear from the get-go that his love in the short also wants to be with him (probably the only time there's something approaching consensual love in this series), but his stench is what's getting in the way. That said, there is a moment where Fabrette is about to drown herself because she's miserable over the fact that her one shot at love isn't working out. This is supposed to be funny but given that she looks very visibly depressed before it happens, it just comes off in poor taste more than anything.
  • The Woobie: Poor, poor Fabrette in this short. She is a lonely cat who merely wants love, but her white stripe birthmark makes all the other cats think she is a skunk and run away from her. She genuinely tries to make a relationship with Pepe work but his smell is just too much for her that she nearly commits suicide only for the narrator to talk her out of it. She then gets the idea to desensitize herself to Pepe’s stench by locking up in a cheese factory, so she would be able to tolerate his odor, but Pepe had isolated himself in a deodorant factory so he would no longer stink and now the roles are reversed, and Pepe begins to run away from her. You just want to give the poor girl a hug.
