  • Alternative Character Interpretation: It is pretty much left up to the readers to side with either Angela or Heather as to who was "responsible" for the breakup; while both characters are incredibly neurotic, there are plenty of readers who relate to one and demonize the other. This includes things like interpreting Heather's behavior to find justification for Angela's suspicions of cheating or demonizing Angela for her denseness and insecurity. This is made even more interesting because each of them blames herself for the breakup, although they are both a little blind to which of their particular flaws were to blame.
  • Angst? What Angst?: Angela attempts to cope with the breakup this way. The angst occasionally bubbles up, revealing that she's plenty affected by the breakup with Heather despite the layers of denial.
  • Broken Base: Many in the fandom argue if Angela's truthful about being poly, much of it due to her jealousy issues (which is illogical as poly people are still capable of being jealous) and how it rarely comes up in the comic. More notable is how almost all her on-screen relationships have been with monogamous partners. Needless to say, this has lead to many arguments on the Facebook pages if Angela can still be considered poly.
    • Worth noting that the only multi-relationship she's been shown in was with her coworker in Queen of Wands and his girlfriend, but she considered it a more open relationship then an actual polyamory, because they still only loved each other.
    • Another hot topic is how Heather slapped Lucy during their breakup. Many cheered, while others called her out on domestic violence. Either way, she came to regret her actions and apologized later.
  • Creator's Pet: Judging by the blog on the comic's Web site, a significant (or at least vocal) portion of the fandom sees Heather as this because she takes up as much panel time as Angela — to the exclusion of Angela — despite not being a carry-over from Queen of Wands. These fans also complain that Heather is too boring because she continues to dwell on Angela so much and that her constant introspection comes across as Wangst.
  • Everyone Is Jesus in Purgatory: Parodied. Book critics interpret Justin's book as an allegorical commentary on gang violence. His response: "DUDE I LIKED BATS AND GUNS."
  • Genius Bonus: Angela makes a subtle reference to Pavlov's experiments in this comic.
