- That One Level: Midway through Special Mission Hunter the player is expected to play a rather lousy parody of Contra. Even if only half of the minigame appears during the scenario and with several lives available, don't be surprised to get a game over or two here.
- They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: The scoreboard reaction animations during Outer Success that have been a part of the series since 3 are removed from this game on, starting a trend of other neat details like that being cut or recycled from game to game (such as the illustrations for the This Is a Work of Fiction, credits and "thanks for playing" screens). The status menu illustration which has been different for every single scenario has also been removed because the touch screen makes every submenu accessible at once.
