YMMV / Postal: Brain Damaged

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Considering this game takes place in the Postal Dude's very broken and damaged mind, this was bound to happen.
    • Arse Faces, Saxobones and Mr. Toots bring to mind the recurring Marching Bands that appear in almost every Postal game. It also begs the question on what they are supposed to represent in the Dude's damaged psyche. Are they born from a deep-seated guilt from killing them and is punishing himself for it? Or do they represent his utter hatred and disgust for them, due to Arse Face and Saxobones being heavily-contorted Body Horror abominations that attack through the use of feces, which definitely isn't the most flattering view of marching bands.
    • The Other Dude, is he meant to be separate from the "evil" Postal Dude from Paradise Lost and represents the Dude from the first game (thanks to wearing an outfit that evokes P1 Postal Dude) or he is the very same Dude just taking a different form? Others still wonder if he's the "demon", the voice in Dude's head in Postal, due to him describing himself as "the demon that won't let you sleep at night".
  • Awesome Music: Take Your Hand To Hell, an epic punk rock parody song with self-deprecating lyrics that, nevertheless, manages to sound great. An instrumental version of it plays in the fight against the final boss.
  • Demonic Spiders: Goliaths, which are deceptively fast, powerful enemies, who are often placed in large enemy groups, often out of sight, who can take off quite a bit of the Dude's health if they ram into him. It's often recommended by players to prioritize getting rid of them as soon as possible.
  • Fridge Brilliance: Some have pointed that a lot of the jokes about certain topics like the toilet paper shortage when the Covid pandemic hit, Karens, conspiracy theories, E3, and so on can feel rather dated - but they actually make much more sense when you remember that the game entirely takes place in the Postal Dude's mind; everything we see is likely a culmination of everything that has frustrated him over the recent years and the gameplay of blasting everything in sight is the Dude venting all that frustration mentally.
  • Good Bad Bugs: It was discovered early on that when pissing right after a weapon is fired, the reload animation is cancelled, allowing players to increase the fire rate of weapons; dubbed "Piss Cancelling", this dramatically increases the effectiveness of the Super Hooker Shotgun, the Holier-Than-Thou Launcher, and the secondary fire of the Brain Fucker Gun 69000. Hyperstrange itself would later advertise it as part of the games' tech in a video, dubbing it the "Quick Leak Technique".
  • Harsher in Hindsight: One cutscene of the game has Postal Dude smiling while sitting on the couch, as five Buff Gnomes are seen standing behind him, naked to their underwear.
  • Memetic Mutation: "Only my weapon understands me." Explanation .
  • More Popular Spin Off: Has a 98% 'Overwhelmingly Positive' review rating on Steam compared to the 76% 'Mostly Positive' rating of Postal 4: No Regerts.
  • Popular with Furries: While the enemies were made as a Take That! towards the Furry Fandom, the Fluffy Friendsnote  have garnered the attention and interest of the fandom.
  • Suspiciously Similar Song: The music track for Area 69, "The Turd is Out There", has snippets that sound very much like a slowed down version of the The X-Files theme song. Then again it was most likely the intention.
  • Unexpected Character: The presence of a second Dude was not mentioned in any of the marketing, let alone that he would be played by Rick Hunter, who most people wrote off due to schedule conflicts that prevented him from playing the Dude again in No Regerts (before his voice was integrated in the game when it left Early Access).
