YMMV / Pokémon S1E70: "Go West Young Meowth"

Go To

  • Harsher in Hindsight: Meowth missing the point of Meowzie's love for humans (convinced it's their sapience, over spoiling and pampering her) only sticks further with his ongoing character, given his lampshaded squandering of his sapience as a financial resource in many later episodes and Team Rocket recurrently living paycheck to paycheck. Even in this episode alone, he fails to see Meowzie only now wants him because his talent could get her out of the streets.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Meowzie is disgusted by the idea of a Meowth that walks on two legs. Come later generations, all Meowth do that.
  • Jerkass Woobie:
    • This episode elaborates just how miserable Meowth's early life was, and how even his trademark talent (human speech) was stemmed from heartbreak. He seemingly gets a chance to heal these old wounds, only to get his chain yanked again very cruelly.
    • To a lesser extent, Meowzie. As shallow and cruel as she was to Meowth (and still is), she's clearly taken down a peg when Hollywood falls into recession and her seemingly coddling owner ditches her to fend for themselves. While Meowth's fate at least offered plenty Throw the Dog a Bone moments in the long run, Meowzie is left a yearning unremarkable stray, just as she had mocked Meowth for being before. Poetic but sad all the same.
