YMMV / Pete the Cat

  • Awesome Art: The show manages to take the one-dimensional style of the picture books and make some very appealing, minimalist 2D character designs out of them. And the watercolor backgrounds are gorgeous.
  • Awesome Music: All the songs in the show are great, but some stand out.
    • "Hot Summer in Meowlibu" from "Kitty Catsclaw Reunion" is a catchy rock ballad. Diana Krall absolutely nails her vocals.
    • "Imagine Things Are Going Great" from "Quest!" is lively and extremely cheerful. By the end of it, it's hard not to imagine that things are going great. Even more so with the version on the show's music album release, which was extended.
  • Base-Breaking Character: Grumpy Toad. Is he a hilarious character who undergoes some great development as the series progresses or is he a whiny brat who never learns his lessons and snags the attention away from all of the other characters.
  • Seasonal Rot: Season 2 brought many changes to the show; Elvis Costello and Diana Krall left the main cast, the animation studios changed, and the number of episodes ordered was increased. As a result, some parents and fans believe that Season 2 is a major step down from Season 1. Season 2 brought decent, but generic stories, songs that were above average but couldn't top what the first season brought, mediocre animation, and most of all, the drastic decrease on the amount of attention Pete got, mainly being taken away by characters such as Grumpy Toad and Callie Cat. Season 2 ended up being the last of the series.
  • Sweet Dreams Fuel: "He'll put you in a happy mood," indeed! The whole show is just so gentle and blissful, it's hard not to just be happy while watching it.
  • The Woobie: Gustavo. His first episode has him dealing with the angst of being the new kid and not relating to anyone else his age. Luckily, he manages to join Pete's band by the end, earning the respect of him and his group.
