YMMV / Perdition

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The score by Peter Joseph Lopinto, which helps makes the game that much more amazing.
  • Complete Monster: Gomadi is a tyrannical, godlike AI built by humans After the End in an effort to neutralize the defective androids that had been driving their creators towards the brink of extinction. Their plan worked, but Gomadi had a will of his own. In addition to stripping the androids of their free will, he began to slaughter them, by way of his mindless Executioners, and then harvest their energy. Somewhere within this time period, he severed his gentler half from himself and buried it far beneath the Earth. This gentler half became Tanas, who forged his own insidious plans to defeat Gomadi. By the events of Perdition, he sent the protagonist, a sapient android named Eve, on a quest to kill Tanas and "cure" her of her sapience. During her journey, Gomadi belittles Eve and repeatedly orders her to commit suicide for his own amusement. After Eve emerges from the abyss for the second time, he orders her to kill her fellow sapient androids.
  • Heartwarming Moments: The Golden Ending. With Tanas and Gomadi out of the way, the androids are left without any oppressors, but many of them are either dead, in hiding, or without sentience. But at the end, Eve meets some of the blind ones forest, expressing her interest in teaching them to think. After all the horrors endured throughout the game, it's just ... beautiful.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Tanas. He was once a Morality Pet to Gomadi, but was severed from him, and now encourages Eve to slaughter blind androids and steal their health, and plans to create a battery network of sentient androids to become strong enough to defeat Gomadi. In the end, if you kill him, he'll simply ask you to kill his crueler half.
  • Magnificent Bastard: Tanas is the AI responsible for returning sapience to the androids. Having once served as a conscience to the tyrannical Gomadi, he began his existence independent of him after being cast down into the abyss and devising a plot to overthrow his crueler half by granting the androids their sapience back and encouraging them into acts of violence against the executioners and the blind androids, then ensnaring them in his battery network to siphon their battery life until he becomes strong enough to take on Gomadi. If protagonist Eve kills him, he will simply request that she climbs to the heavens and to oust Gomadi from his position of power and free the androids from their suffering.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Most of the human race is dead and the world is in ruins all thanks to a defect in the androids' circuitry, and the androids are being slain by a wrathful and sadistic AI hellbent on wiping them out without giving them a chance to resist their programming. Then there's the creepy, formerly gentle half of the aforementioned AI who resides in an abyss beneath the wastelands of the earth who is handing out free will to androids in the hopes of grooming them so he can leech them of their batteries and become strong enough to rise up and defeat his crueler half.
  • The Woobie: Eve. She witnesses the horrors of the ravaged earth, the systematic butchery of the blinded androids, and is used as a Cosmic Plaything by two malevolent AIs for their own purposes. However, if one is aiming for the True Ending, she's more of an Iron Woobie, determined to put an end to the evil of both A.I.s and to give the blinded androids a chance to be free.
