YMMV / Peppermint

The film provides examples of:

  • Anti-Climax Boss: For all the buildup, the final showdown with Garcia has Riley stalling him long enough for the police to show up and arrest him, and Riley shooting him in the head just as he's cornered, getting shot herself but then escaping for a brief time to pad out the ending.
  • Critical Dissonance: Peppermint scored 12% on the Tomatometer, but has a 74% Audience Score.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Riley North. Even though she became a vigilante, it's hard to not feel sorry for her considering that the law wouldn't do anything about punishing those that killed her husband and daughter.
  • Narm:
    • Riley saying her daughter has "love in her heart, snow in her eyes, and peppermint in her blood" is narmy enough on its own, but the way the line is pronounced sounds like she is saying "peppermint in her butt".
    • When Riley is passed out on the floor and goons have come inside to shoot her, she is awoken by the ghost of her dead daughter.
    • The officers figure out where Riley's been hiding out by finding an area of downtown that is somehow "crime free" because of her vigilante antics, despite being a rundown, poor area.
    • The casual declaration by Beltran at the end of the film that he doesn't know a single officer who is upset by Riley's killing spree.
    • The final shot of the movie implying that Riley successfully escapes can be considered this in hindsight when one remembers that, at that point, she's still recovering from serious injuries and is in the middle of a crowded hospital with nothing but a gown on her back, meaning she'd hardly manage to get very far before getting caught again.
  • Took the Bad Film Seriously: Most critics savaged Peppermint, but all were in general agreement that Jennifer Garner was in fine form.
