YMMV / Penguin Cafe Orchestra

  • Covered Up: A lot of people know "Music For a Found Harmonium" from Patrick Street's version, as featured in the film Napoleon Dynamite. That cover had Approval of God to the extent that it was even included on PCO's own Greatest Hits Album Airs, Preludes and Yodels.
  • Even Better Sequel: Or Surprisingly Improved Sequel, depending on who you ask, but either way the second album Penguin Cafe Orchestra is generally agreed to be a great leap forward from Music From the Penguin Cafe, and is probably their most popular album.
  • Newer Than They Think: "Music For A Found Harmonium" has been covered by folk bands and credited as "Traditional".
  • Sampled Up: The melody of "Telephone and Rubber Band" is perhaps better known as the countermelody for Spacehog's one hit, "In The Meantime."
  • Tear Jerker: "The Sound of Someone You Love Who's Going Away and It Doesn't Matter." The title alone is sad, but the achingly beautiful instrumental can really hit some listeners hard.
