• What Do You Mean, It's Not Political?: The Sami are native to Scandinavia and the Chudes to the Baltic states and western Russia — both part of the Soviet Union at the time the film was made. The crew seems to have wanted to avoid implications by having the Chudes speak in a fictional language instead of a real life relative, for example Estonian.
