YMMV / Pasión de gavilanes

Go To

  • Adaptation Displacement: While many people know Pasión de gavilanes spawned many remakes and adaptations, fewer know it was a remake itself, of a Colombian telenovela called Las aguas mansas.
  • Values Dissonance: Some of the things that happened in the series would be a big no no if they were portrayed nowadays. A lot of the dialogue and scenes would be subjected to harsh criticism if they were to be presented nowadays, even if many consider this one of the most emblematic telenovelas. To name a few:
    • While there's obviously a lot of shock from the revelation that Bernardo Elizondo had a mistress from his family, nobody really finds it disturbing that Bernardo, while still healthy and strong, was clearly much, much older than the barely 18-year-old Libia Reyes, who was also in a lower social class, making the relationship unequal in many senses.
    • How Gabriela punished Sarita after finding out she was with Franco. She whipped her to the point she bled and while the rest of the family was horrified, nobody, not even the doctor that treated her, made any sort of follow up afterwards. This admittedly got an Author's Saving Throw in the second season/reunion show, where Gabriela attempting to do the same to Sarita's daughter causes Sarita to completely blow off her lid and stops it from happening.
    • The comments regarding Norma's rape from her ex-husband, Fernando, and even her mother that basically implied she was to blame and that she was lucky she was able to find someone willing to marry her after that traumatic event. In fact, the story didn't dwell much into the rape besides those comments, despite the trauma from it being initially presented as one of the two reasons for Norma's lack of intimacy with Fernando (the other being Fernando being an obvious Jerkass), and it was pretty much dropped altogether after she began her relationshp with Juan; a pretty callous treatment of rape that wouldn't go unnoticed today.
    • The portrayal of a mental health institution that was viewed as a horrible place with lack of care, and even some of the characters made disparaging comments about the mental state of Doña Hortencia, after Ruth's uncanny resemblance to Libia drove her insane. Coupled with that is that in the background it was possible to hear screaming and other noises that would have been more apt for a torture scene rather than a top notch mental health institution.
    • Though Leandro is a strong character that is a close friend to many of the other characters, there are several jokes about his not-overtly-stated-but-very-obvious homosexuality that are homophobic. In turn, with his overweight brother Benito, a lot of people make several comments that are fat shaming or cruel.
