YMMV / Panem Reborn

  • Alternate Character Interpretation:
    • Whether Celia is a sympathetic Career or a manipulator isn't clear. Word of God states that it could be either.
Lauren: You could see Celia as a sympathetic D2 or a stone cold manipulator.
    • Is Nova actually burned out or executed over Casper's initial escape from the arena?
    • Are the youths of District One genuinely moved by Carnelia's Rags to Riches story? Or in the same spirit of Plato Hamasaki's victory, they're embarrassed by how a fourteen-year-old won without any direct kills and think they can do better than her (and to a greater extent, Alexander)?
  • Catharsis Factor:
    • President Gaul was directly or indirectly responsible for the deaths of many beloved characters in Tales of the Hunger Games, which included the deaths Katniss and Peeta through his reimplementation of the Hunger Games, and his direct murder of Flint Harrison. The ending of Tales left his fate ambiguous. The first dossier of Panem Reborn begins with Gaul's mansion being invaded by angry Victors and protestors who drag him out of the bathroom in only his snake-print underwear, where he is then drowned by Sheaf Javorsky. Gaul's death got many cheers from the real-world audience who were happy to see him get his comeuppance after causing so much misery and death.
    • Gaius is a member of the disliked Dalton family, whose members have been depicted to be cruel in the Tales series (with one of them killing Katniss Everdeen). His death at the hands of Celia receives cheers from the real-world audience who enjoyed seeing another Dalton gets their just desserts.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Casper has earned himself a couple fans, given that he turned from a disposable tribute to a minor character who manages to break out of the arena before he's found, to a focus tribute as "Bern" who lets Mercury kill him during the finale.
  • Fan-Disliked Explanation: Many fans were not happy to discover that the Victors from the Post-Reclamation section of Tales of the Hunger Games were killed following Cardew's failed 101st Hunger Games and all of them seem to be dead by the year 141, which is when the official 101st Games takes place. In particular Sheaf (who is an Ensemble Dark Horse), Tritica (who many wanted to see as a mentor alongside Sheaf after winning the 100th Games), and Maxima's deaths have been noted as a bitter pill to swallow, though fans understand that Lauren wants to use her own characters for the continuation.
  • Spoiled by the Format: If one tribute from a focus district dies in the arena, their district partner is given Plot Armor that protects them until the finale (consisting of them and a tribute from the "opposing" focus district).
  • Tear Jerker: Panem Reborn starts with a series of major downers. After every terrible thing the Post-Reclamation Victors went through in Tales of the Hunger Games, they are killed or imprisoned in the second Victors Purge shortly after Cardew's failed 101st Games. The new Rebellion that many Victors were a part of once again failed to stop the Hunger Games and, after a few decades of civil war and infighting, the Districts are back under Capitol control.
