YMMV / Pandora – The World of Avatar

Go To

  • Broken Base: The land itself has become contentious in the Disney Parks community. Many like Pandora for what it is and believe it fits in well with Animal Kingdom's Central Themes of nature and conservation. Others, however, despise Pandora for being based on an pre-existing IP (and one that has received severe Hype Backlash following its release in 2009 at that) that wasn't even Disney-owned (until it eventually was in 2019) instead of something original, with some wishing that Disney had gone with and built Beastly Kingdom instead.note
  • Fan Nickname: Casually referred to as just "Avatarland" across the internet.
  • Fridge Logic: So in-universe, are there just uncontrolled avatars flapping around strapped to the back of the banshee between Flight of Passage runs?
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Much like Star Tours and Indiana Jones Adventure, this entire land foreshadowed Disney owning the Avatar franchise outright with its purchase of 20th Century Fox in 2019.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Hey, that's nice that Avatar: Flight of Passage has a voice in the queue telling people not to ride the ride if they have a fear of heights or are prone to motion sickness...Wait a minute, is that Joey Richter?
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Alpha Centauri Expeditions is depicted as a good organization led by humans that found peace with the Na'vi and celebrates the natural beauty of Pandora, as opposed to the evil Resources Development Administration seen in the movie. However, since the park consists of many ACE guides and very few Na'vi (mostly due to the difficulty of creating convincing Na'vi characters that could freely walk around and exist in the open space believably), it comes across as if ACE has taken over the land of Pandora and is using it for profit without allowing the Na'vi to partake in their own culture. This is especially chilling when you remember that the Na'vi are inspired by Native Americans.
