• Cliché Storm: It seems like there was a checklist of basic horror movie tropes that needed to be fulfilled in order to make the movie work.
• Critic-Proof: The movie was savaged by critics, but went on to make a 71 million dollar profit from its 5 million dollar budget.
• Surprisingly Improved Sequel: The first film was destroyed by critics and largely considered a pretty rotten film. The first reaction of critics to the second film (which is a prequel), however, has been considerably more favorable (83% on Rotten Tomatoes. By contrast, the original is 5%.)
• This Is Your Premise on Drugs: While the plot is cliched as hell, what stands out for people is that the film is Hasbro's first horror movie. And makes it more bizarre that it got a prequel.
