  • Awesome Music: Takagi has just the heroic and inspirational theme he deserves in the OVAs.
  • Funny Moments:
    • Takagi imitating Jamila by pulling his uniform over his head and making raptor hands.
    • Takagi failing to avoid a pair of villains by playing dead and going "BOING! IT'S A JOKE!" in a ridiculous monkey pose.
  • Cult Classic: In its time, the manga was quite successful and had both animated and live action adaptations on top of a Super Famicom fighting game. Unfortunately, it appears to have fallen into obscurity over the years and is largely unknown among Western readers despite having an official translation available for purchase online.
  • Narm:
  • No Problem with Licensed Games: The Super Famicom fighting game features great sprite work, interesting meter and counter systems (and a playable Momochiyo!), though it suffers from an unstable frame rate.
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • The "Guts Killing" of the West Shinjuku Academy Cheering Squad. To go into detail, it involves being strung up by your wrists from the ceiling and then being vertically sliced on your back with razors. Yamamoto, Kazuya, and Ishioka wounded up being subjected to this for twenty, whole, hours.
    • Seen-By-None, Heard-By-None, and Spoken-By-None of the Shibuya Corps. They're three, highly agile fighters who wear creepy looking masks as well as hoods that obscure their identities entirely, and wield claws that are incredibly sharp. They also make one hell of an introduction, as their first chapter has them going after Takagi's friends and leaving messages in their blood, punishing Ryoma Sakamoto for losing to Takagi by raking his eyes, mutilating his upper lip, and slashing his ears, then leaving his bloodied unconscious body outside. They become Nightmare Retardant when it's revealed they are actually very cute girls, and even less horrifying after they join Takagi's side after he defeats them.
    • Majima Boku from his physical appearance alone! He has a fearsome, ugly face with a sinister grin, constantly glaring eyes, and Creepily Long Arms AND Creepy Long Fingers, which tend to be drawn in close detail. Of course, his personality makes him even scarier, as he is one of the most crazed and violent villains in the series. There's also his fighting style which stems from his birth defect that revolves around his incredibly strong skeleton that allows him to straight up stab through concrete, plus it gives him an immense amount of durability as well, making him legitimately more like a horror manga villain than a fighting manga villain due to just how unstoppable he is.
      • He becomes Nightmare Retardant during the epilogue that shows all the characters grown up and living adult lives, as he's comedically shown to be just as creepy as he was then even though he's genuinely redeemed himself and now assists his brother Sabu in running his disco.
    • A (probably unintentional) example can be found on the cover of Volume 22, which depicts sketchy drawings of the faces of Takagi as well as the captains of the various delinquent corps of Tokyo's districts. All of them aren't particularly creepy, but for some reason David Furuta is drawn with a sinister grin and blank-white eyes, that, combined with the narrow shape of his eyes, make him look like a ghost from a Junji Ito manga.
  • Squick: Majima Sabu and Majima Boku's incestuous relationship. It doesn't help that both of them have frightening and ugly faces and are also drawn kissing eachother on the lip's in a deliberately gross fashion.
