• What Do You Mean, It's Not Political?: When they first meet Crocus, the Straw Hats assume he's trying to kill Laboon from the inside, and agree that while it's cruel, it's really none of their business how someone else hunts - which seems innocuous, but takes on a new light when you realize that in real life, Japan is one of the biggest epicenters of anti-whaling protests. (Sanji even says "I don't want to start up the whaling debate" - a line that doesn't really make sense unless it's directly addressed to readers, since One Piece takes place in a mostly pre-industrial society that would logically predate any animal-rights movements.)
