- Fanon Discontinuity: For some fans, the two albums preceeding this one: Trespass and especially From Genesis to Revelation do not exist. Mainly because this is the album Steve Hackett and Phil Collins enter the band.
- Germans Love David Hasselhoff: Like Trespass before it, it took a while for Nursery Cryme to take off in Genesis' native UK, but it was very well-received in continental Europe, with Italian concerts in particular having an enthusiastic following.
- Growing the Beard: Among fans, Nursery Cryme is considered Genesis' first truly great album, solidifying not only the band's lineup as a Progressive Rock group, but also the musical style that they'd carry prior to their Genre Shift at the end of the decade.
