  • Awesome Music: The soundtrack for the game is simply gorgeous, featuring a mix of atmospheric ambient tracks for simply exploring the wilderness, tense music for exploring the dangers of Trollhole or the Nokkpond, and even what can best be described as Medieval Rave music.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment:
    • In Sourwood, one of the witches named Rehtom Dnarg will menace you throughout the second half... and then you see her on a cliff beckoning you to watch her do a dive into the pool. No, this is not brought up again, but you do see Rehtom Dnarg later in Darkthroat.
    • The second to final battle of the game features a weird party game-like encounter where the Village Idiot will slowly and jerkily try to steal a Dimensional Violator from the middle of a forest clearing with hordes of ent-like creatures attacking while the villagers look on. The Village Idiot will instantly give up the Violator if you catch him and will then approach again and again until a timer runs down.
  • Breather Level: Despite the name, Fallcrush is one of these, giving you nice views, ziplining and no enemies after the darkness of the Trilobite Cave.
  • Demonic Spiders: Ticks come in groups, drop down on you from trees, jump at you, and suck your blood with their swollen bodies gradually blocking out your view of the ground, thus making you vulnerable to other ticks sneaking up on you. There is no way to interrupt their feeding, so you have to wait for them to drop off by themselves. After sucking out a good chunk of your HP, they will skitter away to spawn even more ticks, causing you to quickly get mobbed if you don't eliminate them fast and early.
  • Goddamned Bats: The Summoners in Trollhole are designed from the ground up to waste your time. They're small, they teleport when you get close or deal damage to them, and their only means of attack is to summon a variety of Trollspawn to fill the tunnels they're in and overwhelm you. Even worse, another Summoner appears in the fight against the boss of the level!
  • Nightmare Fuel: Right this way.
  • Paranoia Fuel: One section of the Nokkpond features large raft spiders. They not only blend in perfectly with the dried brown reed beds in that part of the pond, they will actively close in on you and stop moving when you're looking in their direction.
  • That One Level: The Trollhole regularly gets brought up on the games Steam community page as being a long and tough as nails level. Horde fights, an underwater octopus enemy whose Combat Tentacles have large irregular hitboxes, and the fight against the troll itself are all hard encounters. To add insult to injury, there's one last trap after the troll boss, where trolls on minecarts come barreling down a corridor at you and try to run you over or push you into a Bottomless Pit.
