YMMV / Ninja Hattori

Go To

  • Adaptation Displacement: The television series is more popular in India and other regions where the comics haven't been released.
  • Archive Panic: The original manga isn't much of a hassle to go through in its entirety, having only 16 volumes. However, the 1980's anime has 694 episodes and 11 specials, and the 2012 reboot has over 100 episodes. And then you've also got several films and a live-action TV show to deal with, the latter of which came before the 1980's TV show.
  • Contested Sequel: Fan reactions vary as to whether or not the 2012 series is as good as the 1981 series.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff:
    • Ninja Hattori is so popular in India that it led to the reboot of the series as a joint venture between India and Japan.
    • Indonesians also love this series as the premiere 'kid anime'. Considering the creator and their other work, which got really big in the country, it makes sense.
  • Ho Yay:
    • Shipping Kenichi with Hattori and/or Shinzou has some following, considering that he's very close to both and they return that closeness. The open affection is also a factor.
    • The English dub of the ending gives those vibes, and since the Japanese version is sung from Kenichi's perspective.
    • Tsuyoshi, a One-shot character, also follows this in some dubs like the Spanish ones. He's more socially awkward and isolated but gets even closer to Kenichi than in the English dub. His reaction to Kenichi's seemed betrayal is even tuned up to complete devastation in the Latin version.
    • Tsumuji, another character who appeared only once. He starts acting aloof and rude towards Kenichi, but he warms up to him after Kenichi saves him from a vicious dog. It may have started as a plan to earn his trust that went awry, but Tsumuji was touched by the effort.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • "Present!" Explanation
    • "Ding ding!" Explanation
  • Viewer Gender Confusion: ‎Shinzō is male, but a few people have thought he's female because of his rosy cheeks and his red outfit.
