• Accidental Aesop: If Teddy had been more careful around open flames, he would not have lost his store.
• Jerkass Woobie: Stewart is revealed to be this when he admits that he only acted hostile towards Teddy because he was jealous of the latter's friends and popularity.
• Hilarious in Hindsight: One of the students is attending class via videochat. In 2018, this was unusual. In 2020, however...
• Sweetness Aversion: Much of the romance and intended heartwarming scenes, especially the graduation speech, come off as cliche and overly sappy.
• The Woobie: Teddy becomes this when he loses his fiancée when she finds out that he's lying about his lifestyle. Even Stewart feels bad for the poor guy, and he's the one who exposed Teddy's deception.
