• Designated Villain: There's no clear reason why the alien is treated as evil at the end. The protagonists even acknowledge this... after they've murdered the poor thing. Of course, it revealed its plot to take over the world, starting with the shrimp-babies inside Johnny.
  • So decapitating Dr. Wyman doesn't count as a clear reason?
• Fetish Retardant: John spends half the movie without a shirt on, so we get to see more of his pasty out of shape torso than we ever wanted to.
• Memetic Mutation: Calling all the characters Steve.
• Special Effects Failure: Several, but most notably the supposed view of Steve John's blood cells under the microscope.
  • Mike and the bots also take great delight in pointing out that for alleged NASA employees, the film's characters don't seem to have any equipment more sophisticated than that you'd see at the local farmer's market.
  • Finally, there's the scene wherein Steve 1 and Steve 2/Dave discover Dr. Wyman's body. Steve states that "his head's gone", even though we can plainly see from Wyman's shadow and the wide shots of his body that his head is still attached.
• Strawman Has a Point: You can't fault the parrot-alien for its actions.
  • Again, aside from decapitating Dr. Wyman.
