YMMV / Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds

Go To

  • Fan Nickname: Rojo, the leader of the red pirates, is nicknamed "Captain Jack Sparrow" by Asian players, for obvious reasons.
  • The Scrappy: Many people consider Cluu, the pig-like creature who tags along with your playable character, unreasonably annoying, for his voice and sarcastic nature among other things. This is especially true with the Japanese voice set where Cluu's voice is absolutely downright unbearable.
  • Scrappy Mechanic:
    • The NFT and blockchain integration found in the North American, South American, European, Middle Eastern, Oceanian and South East Asian servers are widely panned by players who are sick and tired of the crypto hype and the damage to the real world economy (especially their contribution to the CPU and GPU shortage problem) they have caused. Made worse when it was discovered that the Far East Asian, Korean and Japanese releases of the game will continue to not have NFT and crypto support.
    • Lava Valley is generally considered this by all but the most top-tier players due to the way matchmaking is done, turning it to almost entirely a Luck-Based Mission. Unfortunately, unlike the controversial NFT and blockchain integration, this problem is ran across all versions of the game. Specifically, when you begin matchmaking, you are placed in a party with two other players, your total CP (combat points) is calculated and then that team is pitted against another team with approximately the same amount of CP total. The problem is, no attempt is made to compensate for the possibility of wildly varying CP amounts among individual players. As such, for example your team may be as follows - Player 1: 1,500,000 CP, player 2: 1,000,000 CP, player 3: 1,2000,000 CP. Meanwhile, the opposing team is Player 1: 2,000,000 CP, player 2: 900,000 CP, player 3: 800,000 CP. More likely than not, the 2,000,000 CP player will simply obliterate the opposing side, sometimes without dying once. You may even find yourself on a team where, say, you're at 1,000,000 CP and you have an ally on your team who is only 300,000. Temple Team Arena is just as bad, even if you now have 5 players per team. And to exacerbate things even further, the game now threatens you if you don’t at least play at least 3 matches of both Temple Team Arena and Lava Valley weekly.
    • The fact that equipment can get damaged if they fail enhancement and require an anvil to fix. The fact that enhancement can fail is bad enough given that they consume enhancement stones (and in western region servers, a substantial amount of Territe given how Territe is tied in to the Blockchain mechanism of the region's version of the game) that will not be returned to you should enhancement fail. This is made even worse that f2p users can get at best two anvils a week unless they scrap three star or better equipment, an idiotic thing to do given that these are also needed for levelling up or awaking a equipment's power.
  • Unexpected Character:
    • Drippy from the original Ni no Kuni returns as the Elder Fairy. It's not stated directly that it's him, but it's immediately obvious to anyone who's played the original, albeit his accent is different.
    • Aunt Marthanote  also returns, this time as a restaurant owner in the nameless kingdom. note
    • Leander (at least, his ghost) has a significant non-speaking part in the Hydropolis arc, as he was seen several times when the player party first enters the now underwater Hydropolis and was mistakenly thought to be a Black Circle agent. Ultimately he became the Deus ex Machina that saved the party in the arc.
