• Goddamned Bats: Pirates are serious threats at the beginning when you only have a small ship and can barely fight back, while they hound you in groups and may even be faster than you. Once you acquire more powerful ships and gear, however, they turn into annoyances that won't stop pestering you. Fighting them quickly becomes a waste of time and resources, since their loot is abysmal and they flee immediately once they realize that they have no chance of winning.
