YMMV / My Little Pony Tales S 1 E 5 Stand By Me

Go To

  • Accidental Aesop: If you're a jerk to people most of the time, and a crime is committed, they'll be likely to suspect you were the culprit even when you're innocent, and few will be willing to help you out.
  • Captain Obvious Reveal: Was there a single soul who was surprised that the hoof that took Melody's cassette player wasn't Teddy's, but that of the similarly-colored Mr. Tidwell, given that he contributes nothing else to the episode and never appears before it?
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Despite Teddy turning out not to have stolen Melody's cassette player, "Bon Bon's Diary" shows that Teddy would take someone else's property.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Numerous viewers have accused the relationship between Teddy and Sweetheart of being a lot less wholesome and a lot more toxic than it's presented. The episode's song showing Teddy doing mean things to Sweetheart on purpose, then acting kind and winning her back over, with this being a recurring sequence of events, isn't at all unlike how many real-life abusive partners operate.
  • Values Resonance: As utterly cheesy as the episode's song, "You Don't Know the Boy" is, the part where Sweetheart describes sensitivity and compassion as "things that most boys hide" raises a good point about society's expectations of males to hide their emotions.
