YMMV / My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic S9 E5 "The Point of No Return"

  • Alternate Aesop Interpretation:
    • Don't always focus on the negative when life hands you a curveball. Focus on what the experience has shown you and who knows? You might find yourself better off for it.
    • Don't assume rumors are true; try to get all of the facts yourself before coming to a conclusion. First Folio gave Twilight a story about why Dusty left that turned out to be incorrect, causing Twilight a lot of unnecessary anxiety.
    • An older person can still enjoy new things or take their life in a different direction. Dusty Pages is having the time of her life even though she was quite old when she left her job at the library.
  • Alternative Character Interpretation:
    • Twilight has to go to a room in the basement especially for long overdue books - after getting shamed by the librarian too. Was this procedure something that was introduced by Dusty Pages herself as another element of her obsession with being perfect all the time? Or was this already in place when she first came to work at the library - and if so, did that contribute to her neurosis more?
    • Was First Folio being evasive when she said Dusty Pages was forced to leave the library? Or did she just assume that Dusty left because she was fired, as willingly retiring would seem too out of character for her?
  • I Knew It!: When this episode was brought up, some viewers predicted that Moondancer would be making an appearance after having cameos in other episodes and the movie. Their thoughts came true.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character:
    • Moondancer only appears in one scene to introduce First Folio to Twilight and otherwise disappears for the remainder of the episode. It would've been interesting to see her and Twilight work together on the hunt to find Dusty, help talk some sense into Twilight (even if Spike was already there for that), or, if nothing else, maybe have taken Twilight's place as Perfect-Book Borrower after the latter loses it at the end as a Brick Joke.
    • On that note, aside from some brief background cameos, we never caught up with the other three among Twilight's Canterlot circle of friends. Heck, she even goes out of her way to avoid Lemon Hearts when trying to get into the library (though to be fair, that applied to everypony else too).
