- Broken Base: The reception of another Applejack centric episode was split down the middle. While it pleased many that AJ finally got another A Day in the Limelight after spending most of Season Two Out of Focus or her centre spotlight stolen, some believe the episode suffered as a result by recycling the Serious Business plot akin to those of Twilight's episodes, but AJ's more reserved personality allowed for less extreme humor and a much more mundane outcome. This explains why AJ rarely gets lead roles in the first place.

- Hilarious in Hindsight: Applejack with a mouthful of apples (demonstrating the bobbing-for-apples leg of the race) may remind PONY.MOV fans of APPLE.MOV.

- Nausea Fuel: Auntie Applesauce losing her half of her teeth while making apple jam. Granny Smith provides even more by saying they never found her teeth in any of the jars.
- One-Scene Wonder:

- The song features a Palette Swap of Octavia playing the fiddle (named "Fiddlesticks" by the fandom). Despite the fandom's tendancy to latch on to characters like this and the fact she got almost as much focus as DJ-PON3, she never really got quite as much attention as Octavia did.
- Apple Dumpling and Apple Leaves in their one speaking scene together.
- Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: After a controversial debut, Babs Seed got a very positive portrayal, validating her more sympathetic character interpretations and letting her prior bad rep die down.
- So Okay, It's Average: The general consensus, due to the episode's focus around Applejack, with no scene stealing characters or particularly memorable gags in sight.
- Squick: Any time Auntie Applesauce's dentures fall out of her mouth.
- They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Babs Seed mentions setting up her own Manehattan Cutie Mark Crusaders chapter with two other foals.
