YMMV / My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic S1 E12 "Call of the Cutie"

Go To

  • Fanon: Due to the joke about Cheerilee having '80s Hair, it's become a popular trend for fan artists to depict her having followed every hairstyle trend of the following decades.
    • The scene where Apple Bloom is helping out Pinkie with the cupcakes has mainly transpiraled into her being Pinkamena's apprentice (though she is sometimes replaced by Scootaloo) in Grimdark fanworks.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • At one point, Pinkie Pie has Applebloom help her make cupcakes
    • Scootaloo's comment about how without a cutie mark, their potential is unlimited seems rather hollow given that their crusading has led to an almost non-stop cavalcade of failure.
    • While there isn't any comments that make the moment harsh, just knowing that Apple Bloom all but ditches Twist after she gains her Cutie Mark ends up making a later moment, where she makes a care package for Babs Seed letting her know that, even if she has a Cutie Mark and thus no longer a Cutie Mark Crusader, she's still their friend, seem a little sad.
      • Also an inversion of Starlight Glimmer being left behind by Sunburst.
    • Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo defending Apple Bloom's blank flank by saying it means she has the potential to do whatever she wants, when four seasons later Diamond Tiara is revealed to be suffering deep insecurities about this very thing (and even calls the CMC lucky for it). This can even come off as the very reason she becomes so devoted to tearing them down. Scootaloo's 'stuck being stuck up' comment is also this, as Diamond's mother is trying to force her to be a 'high horse' like her.
  • Heartwarming in Hindsight: Apple Bloom lying to Diamond Tiara by saying her supposed cutie mark is “unbelievably amazing” would become positively ironic, as Tiara herself would later call Apple Bloom’s real cutie mark amazing come Season 5.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Since the entire first season was wrapped before any episode aired, the show creators couldn't possibly realize that the fandom would consider Peppermint Twist's cutie mark appearing when it did to be such a plot twist.
