* AssPull: [[spoiler:The Shadow Priests come out of nowhere in the finale and can deflect or counter any attack with a wave of their hand, can outfight everyone, and the only thing that gives them pause briefly is Shang Tsung's soul steal. There is no story context as to why they are so powerful and no reason how they are immune to ''everything''. Shao Kahn just summons them and they walk through the entire cast, killing everyone except Raiden.]]
* CompleteMonster: [[BigBad Shao Kahn]] is the lord of Outworld and the conqueror of countless worlds that he brutally dominates, enslaves and [[YourSoulIsMine harvests for souls]]. [[EstablishingCharacterMoment Introducing himself]] by stealing the soul of a slave, Kahn aims to invade Earth and subject it to his brutal rule like so many others. Setting himself up as a god named "Shakaa", Shao Kahn attempts to harvest the souls of the people in the city of Shakaana under the promise of delivering them to "paradise." In the finale of the show, Kahn proceeds to use his Shadow Priests to [[KillEmAll exterminate every other member of the main cast]], including [[OffingTheOffspring Kahn's own daughter Kitana]], while defeating Raiden. Mocking Raiden for the deaths of all the others, especially Raiden's champion Kung Lao, Shao Kahn forces Raiden to watch as [[TheBadGuyWins he leads Outworld's forces to utterly dominate and destroy every living soul on Earth]]:
-->Let's see what gifts we have for our guests. A traitor...dead. Two sorcerers ...dead. A queen...dead. A daughter...dead. A bodyguard...dead. A thief...dead. A champion...dead. You...will...bow...to...me.
* DesignatedHero[=/=]WhatAnIdiot: Pointed out by Phelous in his reviews of the series, some of the actions done by the main trio are either or both of these tropes. For example, Siro trusting two women he just met with the crucial task of blowing up a Kreeya hive....full of babies.
* DiabolusExMachina: The Shadow Priests. See AssPull above.
* HarsherInHindsight: The ending to the show, where [[spoiler:Shao Kahn kills everyone]], is oddly prescient of ''VideoGame/MortalKombat9'', which ends with [[spoiler:Shao Kahn killing ''almost'' everyone]]. In both cases, Raiden unwittingly caused the destruction and Kahn used super-powerful proxies to fight in his stead instead of fighting himself.
* InformedWrongness: As WebVideo/{{Phelous}} pointed out in the episode ''Thicker Than Blood,'' Siro had every right to be cold towards his ex-fiancée since she cruelly left him for his brother. However, everyone acts like Siro is being the JerkAss in the situation. Phelous usually makes Siro out to be a {{Jerkass}} IdiotHero, so the fact that even he is siding with Siro here says a lot.
* IronWoobie: Great Kung Lao.
* MemeticMutation: Shao Kahn's speech at the end of the final episode has been oft-quoted on ''Mortal Kombat'' message boards, especially in the wake of ''9''.
** Phelous coined "Siro: The Greatest Mortal Kombat Kharacter!"
* SoBadItsGood: The show's characters, acting, special effects, and storyline are very 90's and camp at times, but it's still fun to watch ''and'' make fun of.
