• Moral Event Horizon: Kyle is the one you would expect to have crossed it but even in his despair, he used a fake bomb subverting this trope. Walt Camby, on the other hand, embezzled money from countless investors (some of whom were like Kyle and foolish enough to have trusted their life-savings to IBIS) in order to increase his profit from a mining company in Johannesburg.
• Tear Jerker: Kyle's girlfriend's brutal verbal assault on her boyfriend. No matter how right she may be, considering how Kyle has basically ruined his and her lives financially, her tirade goes way too far, especially when she ends it by asking Kyle to shoot himself in front of the whole world. By this point, Kyle instantly becomes a more sympathetic person, both to the audience and Gates.
