YMMV / Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story 0079: Rise From The Ashes

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: The Gundam wiki posits that the bioweapon Astaroth wasn't even real, and just a ploy by Visch Donohue to draw the Federation forces to him and allow his men and other Zeon forces to retreat into space.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: The game was released in the west at the point Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, a series set in an alternate universe, had just begun taking Toonami by storm. As the game is set early in the Universal Century, those who bought the game being only familiar with Gundam Wing were left a bit confused by the setting and comparatively simplistic mobile suit designs.
  • Narm: Some of the dialogue is clunky and wooden, often with incredibly awkward metaphors. They're meant to evoke something resembling wonder or convey the stakes of a mission, but more often than not they're just funny. The very first mission has some fantastic examples:
Fang-3: Maybe they're the souls of all those killed in the drop. Drawn back by Earth's gravity! [...] This land here is charged with the power of hatred for the Zeon. I can feel it in my bones, too.
Fang-2 Power from the dead, is that what you're talking about? You mean the Zeon woke up a sleeping lion, don't you. Except we're dingoes, not lions. Dingoes are dogs!
