• Base-Breaking Character:
  • Yuko is either a relatable and understandable teenager who has realistic problems, or an overly whiny Drama Queen and a not a very interesting protagonist. To some, her insecurities make her an endearing Moe, but to others, she can be an Unintentionally Unsympathetic girl who often lies to her friends and brings her own problems on herself.
  • Takako. Some find her a Tsundere character with Hidden Depths who is more interesting than Yuko, but others find her too rude, bossy, and unlikable.
• Les Yay: The Shrinking Violet Yuko and the aggressive Takako are so close that they exchange each other's diaries. While Takako is not the most pleasant person, Yuko has a lot of affection for her, often crying when they have a fight.
• Moe: Yuko, for being shy, naive, and her short and cute appearance (especially compared to her friend Takako). Her surname Kawai is Japanese for "cute".
• Narm: Many of the dramatic scenes about Yuko breaking down crying and/or being overdramatic for insignificant reasons can be unintentionally funny.
• Wangst: Yuko often goes into whiny, confused, and melodramatic phases for typical teenage girl problems, like "I am going out with a boy I don't like, I wish Hiroshi was with me".
