• Sequelitis: "Brett Halliday" aka Davis Dresser was never as ambitious as the leading mystery writers of the day, like Dashiell Hammett or Raymond Chandler. But most fans would agree that the Dresser novels were competent genre fiction. However, the books written after the "Brett Halliday" pen name was given to ghostwriters are generally agreed to be more generic, and greatly inferior to the books written by Davis Dresser.
