YMMV / Michael Jordan: Chaos in the Windy City

Go To

  • Audience-Alienating Premise: Despite the game playing fairly well, the game gained a poor reputation for its premise alone. It doesn't help that it released around the same time (Late 1994) as the infamous Shaq Fu. Chaos In The Windy City is in another galaxy however in terms of quality to its counterpart.
  • Awesome Music: Even people who dislike the game can't deny it has a pretty banging soundtrack, which includes contributions from longtime EA legends David Whitaker and Don Veca. Special mention goes to the game's main theme.
  • No Problem with Licensed Games: If you can get past its silly premise, it's a very good game.
  • Quirky Work: You're Michael Jordan in a platformer to save basketball players from a Mad Scientist. And you fight enemies with different basketballs consisting of different elements. As stated in the main page, we couldn't make this up if we tried. And yet, it somehow works.
  • Retroactive Recognition: This was Amy Hennig's first game as a lead designer. She would gain more fame in the industry for her work on Legacy of Kain, Jak and Daxter, and Uncharted.
  • Vindicated by History: The game bombed in sales, and was reviewed rather harshly for the blatant product placement and wasting Jordan's likeness, and its premise was dunked on, and even called among the worst games ever in 1997 by Nintendo Power (though they admitted it wasn't that bad; just a big waste of Jordan's license). The game has gained a lot more respect years down the road, because more people discovered that underneath its premise and all the product placement, is a solidly well-made and creative game.
