• Older Than They Think: Menace Beach is notorious for the cutscenes showing the chained up girfriend's clothes "rotting" away in between levels. It actually isn't the first game to utilize this kind of initiative for gameplay. An earlier game for Sega Genesis called Phelios has the female character Arthemis chained up in a dress, and as you progress further in the game, Arthemis is wearing less clothing in each cutscene. By the end of the game, she's in just her underwear. Perhaps this is where the developers for "Menace" got the idea.^note In "Phelios" though, there's a more logical explanation for Arthemis losing her clothes. It's implied her captor is gradually removing her clothing.
