YMMV / Max and Ruby 0004

Go To

  • Narm: The reason Ruby gives the narrator for all the horrible things depicted in the DVD? He never watched any episodes. Gets even sillier when you realize that anyone who watches the DVD may, in fact, have watched some episodes. Oh, the irony...
  • Nightmare Fuel: The pictures used throughout the story. The large black holes on an otherwise completely literally blank face are more effective than the "hyper-realistic" blood from the eyes from other creepypastas. The picture of Ruby staring at the viewer with blue eyes particularly stands out. On top of that, the sadness of the story makes for a slightly better than usual lost episode ‘pasta, since that is focused on more than needless gore and violence.
  • Nightmare Retardant: The video adaptation, for its voice acting, animation (the father pulling a knife out of his face and hacking away at the corpse of the mother), and cheap jumpscares. However, the edited picture of Ruby walking in on Max (where she has a mouth) is rather frightening. The remake of the video, done in 2020, toned down the narminess of the original by adding more subtle scares, but the animation is still somewhat lacking in some parts.
  • Tear Jerker: If you get past the scary visuals, the story itself is rather sad, showing that Max and Ruby's parents have died and that "Death is their only release".
