  • Anti-Climax Boss: Nita's final confrontation with Monica, her mother. Knowing full well that she doesn't have a chance against her in a fair fight, not to mention her regenerative powers, Nita opts for a very practical yet effective solution: booby-trapping her backpack with an explosive powerful enough that her mother would be killed on the spot. As a result, she feigns to comply to her demands, and just wait a little for her to act like she expected her to. The whole confrontation is resolved in one single chapter. Granted, Nita did mess up, leading to a much stronger explosion than even she anticipated, one that could have also killed her if she didn't prepare for a explosion blast accordingly.
  • Anvilicious: The book's metaphor of Fantastic Racism sends a perfectly effective message without characters needing to constantly outright discuss the evils and prevalence of skin color-based racism.
  • Narm: Nita describing Kovit's hair as looking like he just did a "shampoo commercial" after he feeds once is acceptable. By the third time, you'll be amused.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Starting from Book 2 and onward, Nita's rash actions, bad judgements calls, insensitivity and propensity for murder can make her hard to root for.
