YMMV / Mario Party: Star Rush

Go To

  • Older Than They Think: The preliminary box art for Mario Party: Star Rush was mocked for using a stock image from Campbell's Spaghetti-Os in collaboration with Nintendo. However, despite what people believed, said stock image was already in use not long before the collaboration occurred in November 2013, with its earliest use being in June of that same year.
  • Salvaged Gameplay Mechanic: After the overfocus on luck and many comeback elements of the previous NDcube era Mario Party games in the series ended up diluting the experience for many players, Star Rush reins those factors back in significantly, in favor of more strategic gameplay and balanced mechanics. Despite some hiccups, the effort seemed to work, as the grid-based boards were continued into the next two games.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: The Double Star Card item in Balloon Bash will always be automatically used when you pass a star balloon, even if you don't have enough coins to obtain double the stars from them.
  • That One Sidequest: The very first non-tutorial board, World 1-1, is arguably the hardest board in the game to get the Super Star Rush rank. You need a total of 10 stars, which means you'll need at least 60 coins after winning all of the boss minigames. The first thing you have to do is to roll high enough at the start to reach the allies before the computer players do. Then you have to keep walking through the flower beds in the top right island, which have a small chance of giving you 5 coins. But because of how small the board is, it’s all too likely that the computer players will rush towards the boss spaces before you can earn enough coins for the rank. Not helping matters is that the items they can get from the ? Spaces can easily screw you out of this rank, whether it be (Golden) Dash Mushrooms to boost their movement, Dueling Gloves to steal your allies through dumb luck, or Warp Boxes to warp themselves to you if you're within 6 spaces of a boss space.
