YMMV / Maren Morris

Go To

  • Base-Breaking Character: She has a very mixed reception among country critics for her pop leaning discography and her criticism of certain big name country artists such as Jason Aldean and Morgan Wallen. This has only become stronger following her decision to walk away from country music entirely.
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap:
    • She won a lot of her detractors over with her collaboration with The Highwomen.
    • It could be argued that her finding mainstream pop success with "The Middle" did this for her too. While country audiences still had reservations about her as an artist, pop audiences fully embraced her.
  • Tearjerker: While she mainly dabble in lighter topics as befitting of her pop-country leaning, Morris had some heavy material:
    • "Dear Hate", which is about how hate can poison any minds but love will conquer all.
    • "Old Soul" is a song about a woman who has to grow up way too fast.
  • Unexpected Character: Her presence in the Highwomen group took a lot of people by surprise since the other three members (Natalie Hemby, Amanda Shires and Brandi Carlile) are all B or C-list artists who received critical acclaim among country traditionalists in contrast to Morris's more pop-leaning discography and popularity.
