YMMV / Magical Tetris Challenge

  • Adaptation Displacement: A lot of people are unaware that the N64 and PS1 versions are ports, and the game was originally made for arcades. The fact that the arcade version was Japan-only might have had something to do with it.
  • Awesome Art: The characters are very expressive for pixelated sprites. Each character has unique animations filled with personality. You can see the influence of Disney animators in this game.
  • Awesome Music: The game has a fantastic soundtrack by Harumi Fujita. Each song just oozes 90's goodness:
    • Minnie's Theme is just plain beautiful. A bell-like synth sound and strings provide a gentle, comforting melody that goes surprisingly well with a funky bassline and percussion.
    • Pete's Gang does for Pete what "A Boss Approaches" would later do for Bowser: Giving a classic, comical villain a hip-hop-inspired theme that gives them swagger. This track is also used for the continue screen in single player.
    • Versus Pete is a surprisingly ominous and powerful theme that provides a dark mood for the Final Boss.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Pete's fate at the end of Mickey's story. Even though he is the bad guy, it's still kind of unnerving to see him desperately pleading for help as he's sucked into a portal, with no indication as to where the portal goes or what awaits him on the other side. Mickey and Minnie don't seem too worried, though—they don't even address the situation. Whether that makes it better or worse is up to you.
  • Suspiciously Similar Song: "Story 2," one of the cutscene themes, sounds almost like an instrumental cover of the Ghostbusters theme. It has similar-sounding instruments, a similar rhythm, and it even seems to be in the same key.
