YMMV / Madea Goes to Jail

Go To

  • Jerkass Woobie:
    • While Linda deserved her fate at the end of the movie, you can't help but feel a little sorry for her because she really did love Josh.
    • Candy is a pretty angry, embittered and combative person to virtually everyone she meets, she's had a really rough past and present involving abuse, rape and prostitution.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: Viewer who find the Candy/Linda scenes too boring just came to see Madea.
  • Memetic Mutation: There are multiples gifs on Tumblr of Madea saying 'Suck it up and shut the hell up."
  • One-Scene Wonder: Judge Greg Mathis as the judge who ultimately sent Madea to jail.
  • Retroactive Recognition: SofĂa Vergara as Tee Tee.
  • Tear Jerker: Josh crying when he explains what happened with Candice at the party. The poor guy couldn't keep his composure while crying because he had a hard time forgiving himself for not getting help for Candice when she was gang raped at the party.
  • Uncertain Audience: The movie tries to be both a comedy and a melodrama at the same time. Unfortunately, the movie can't decide which it wants to be, confusing its audience as a result.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic:
    • The lady who was shopping at Kmart with Madea. While Madea broke the law by damaging her car, the lady was really rude and wasn't sympathetic to begin with.
    • Madea herself, before and after she was sent to prison. Along with her usually cranky personality and penchant for violence, she's been in trouble with the law since childhood and wasn't adequately punished until this film. When word got out, several (but not all) people were in support of her being released even though she really didn't deserve it and given her future actions (like how she drove her car through a fast food restaurant to deal with the rude cashier in Madea's Big Happy Family) didn't learn anything from it.
  • The Woobie: Josh, whose past actions are clearly eating him up, especially after his breakdown.
