"Nero's Inferno": Nero, the repugnant, tyrannical emperor of Rome, is a vicious animal out to quench his own sadism. When he was young, Nero would murder men at night, before kidnapping people, tying them to stakes, and biting their genitals off. As Emperor, to make room for a new palace, Nero engulfed Rome in flames, playing the lyre all the while, later blaming the Christians for the destruction and having them burned. Marrying a boy he had castrated, Nero is revealed to have murdered his own mother by removing her womb.
Crossing the Line Twice: So, so much. The chorus of "The Black Knight" cheerfully explains how Gilles De Rais would rape and murder children, then masturbate in the dead children’s organs.
Broken Base: Despite the moment's brevity, reviewers have been split on the hint that the family might have extended their lifespan through cannibalism. Some believe that it made no sense in an otherwise fairly grounded story and nearly ruined the film, while some have either forgave it due to its ambiguity, ignored it, or felt it added mystique to the antagonists.
So Okay, It's Average: While it's overall very well liked by those who watched it, some believe that it doesn't do anything spectacular and is notable mainly due to the fact that it's an Indonesian film in a genre largely dominated by North American productions.
