  • Anvilicious: Some episodes really emphasize Humans Are the Real Monsters.
  • Broken Base:
    • The vagueness of episode descriptions and titles. Some people like the sense of mystery it adds to the podcast, while others hate the fact that Mahnke's style of description basically makes it impossible to search for a particular topic.
    • Mahnke's style of narration is very much love it or hate it. Some like the more narrative tone of this podcast as opposed to other supernaturally-focused podcasts, but people who dislike it say that this style tends to lend itself to spreading misinformation (such as Mahnke claiming that Chernobyl is in Russia when it has always been a Ukrainian installation). Not helping matters on the side of the detractors is the fact that Mankhe has a tendency to do very long-winded ad reads; at one point in the show's history, a thirty-minute episode could be twenty minutes of content, seven minutes of ads, and three minutes of outro.
  • Complete Monster: Peter Stump, from "The Beast Within", is a cannibalistic serial killer in 1589 Bedburg, Germany who has already preyed upon 18 women and children. He would kidnap these victims from the woods and take them to his hideout, where he would then proceed to chop them up while they're still alive and eat the severed heads and limbs, keeping the bones as trophies. He also took advantage of the werewolf hysteria of that time by leading the villagers to wild goose chases in search of a werewolf as way detract their suspicions away from him while he would continue to claim more lives. When he notices Greta Hetfelderz and recognized her as one of his victims who managed to escape his clutches six years ago, he proceeds to kidnap her and take her to his hideout where he attempts of chop off her left arm he scarred back then. Ultimately, the savagery of Peter Stump would later become one of the greatest inspirations behind the infamous werewolf folklore.
  • Nausea Fuel: Shows up at least once in every episode. You'll need a strong stomach to listen to this series.
