  • Funny Moments: Izzy messing up the forced second Christmas photos by subtly flipping the bird against her skirt, where her mother can't see until the photos are already printed. It quickly becomes Harsher in Hindsight when Elena literally cuts her out of the photos.
  • Misattributed Song: The captions of episode 3 stated that the song "Say That You Love Me" by No Doubt was playing at the prom. The correct song title is "Lovefool" by The Cardigans. (This can also be a case of Refrain from Assuming, as the former's title is repeated liberally in the latter, though the latter's title doesn't appear in it at all.
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • Bill putting up a poster-sized image of baby May-Ling's frostbitten hand in court (also counts as Nausea Fuel). Notably, no one else in-universe can look at it, and it drives Bebe to hysterics.
    • Linda going to check on May Ling in her crib, only to find her missing. Even if you sided with Bebe in the custody case, Linda's worry and panic is heartbreaking.
    • Elena being unable to find Izzy after wishing she'd never had her is likely to make most parents (a) hug their own children a little tighter and (b) be cautious about what they say to their children when they're angry.
    • Elena's primal scream during the finale.
  • Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: Between the unlikable characters, the heavily bitter ending, and the reveal of the fire in Elena's house was started by her own kids after hearing Elena declare that she never wanted to have Izzy, it can get quite easy to not care about any of the characters (though that's at least partly the point).
